Translation
I have translated for more than 20 years for EU and international institutions, government bodies, agencies and companies. Much of my work today is review and quality assurance.
- English into Romanian
- French into Romanian
- Romanian into English

I started translating at Radio Romania International, where I worked on English-language news and features for eight years. From 2003 to 2007 I also translated for government bodies and institutions in Bucharest during Romania's EU pre-accession period.
From 2008 to 2014 I freelanced in Brussels for EU and international institutions and organisations. Since then I have worked from Romania for agencies, institutions and organisations around the world, including a lot of work on EU regional development programmes.
A large part of my work is review: checking translations for accuracy, terminology, consistency and style before they reach the client. I spent two years as head of quality assurance for film subtitling for Netflix. I also coordinate teams of translators on large multilingual projects.
I work in memoQ and SDL Trados Studio, so I can use your translation memories and term bases and return files in the format you sent them.

Interpretation
I am a conference interpreter working between Romanian, English and French, with an EMCI-certified MA in Conference Interpreting. I have interpreted since 2003, in booths, meeting rooms, on air and on the factory floor.

- French into Romanian
- Romanian into English

I began interpreting at Romanian public radio, covering radio conferences, live interviews and key events as they happened, including the UN Security Council meeting of February 2003. From 2003 to 2007 I also interpreted for government bodies and institutions in Bucharest during Romania's EU pre-accession period.
From 2008 to 2014 I worked in Brussels as a freelance interpreter for EU and international institutions and organisations. I have interpreted extensively at European Works Council meetings across Europe for multinationals such as GKN, GE Aviation and Ford, including the Geneva Motor Show and Ford factory missions in Valencia, Spain. In Romania I have worked mostly on EU regional development programmes.
In 2017 I earned an MA in Conference Interpreting from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. The programme is part of the EMCI consortium (European Masters in Conference Interpreting), backed by the European Commission to train interpreters for the European institutions.
From October 2022 to July 2024 I worked full time as on-site interpreter at GE Vernova in Saint-Nazaire, France, where offshore wind turbines are built. I supported the induction and training of Romanian workers and kept communication running on the production line between the Romanian teams and French and American management.
Service
Voice-over
I am a native Romanian male voice with eight years of radio behind me, more than 15 years of freelance voice-over work, and my own professional recording studio in Cluj-Napoca.

From 2001 to 2008 I was a journalist and presenter at Radio Romania International, producing English-language programmes for listeners abroad. I coordinated the station's contributions to pan-European co-productions such as Network Europe and the Euranet radio network, working alongside the BBC, Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands and Radio Sweden.
My audio documentary The Wild Boar Hunt, about boar hunting in the Carpathian Mountains, won the Golden Umbrella for Best Audio Documentary at the 2006 Mediamixx International Media Festival and was presented at the 2007 International Feature Conference in Copenhagen.
In 2008 I set up my own studio in Brussels and worked for international voice agencies, producing Romanian and multilingual recordings. Today I work from my own professional recording studio in Cluj-Napoca, where I record e-learning courses, employee training videos, online, radio and TV content, and ads. I also run full dubbing productions: casting, recording, editing and delivery.
My voice can be described as clear, warm, sincere, casual but matter-of-fact, and never bombastic.

About
Ioan Mureșan
I have spent 20 years helping people understand each other across languages, in writing, in the interpreting booth and behind the microphone.
I grew up in Victoria, a small town at the foot of the Făgăraș Mountains in central Romania, and studied English at the University of Bucharest. Radio came first: for eight years I was a journalist, translator and presenter at Radio Romania International, where I learned to write for the ear and to work to deadlines that don't move.
In 2008 I moved to Brussels and spent six years freelancing for EU and international institutions as a translator, interpreter and voice-over artist. I came back to Romania to train as a conference interpreter in Cluj-Napoca, and I have worked from there ever since, with one long assignment abroad: almost two years as on-site interpreter at GE Vernova's offshore wind turbine plant in Saint-Nazaire, France.
Today my work combines translation and review, interpreting, and voice-over and dubbing production. I spent two years as head of quality assurance for Netflix film subtitling, and careful review is still a large part of what clients ask me for. Whatever the job, the aim is the same: a text, a speech or a voice that sounds as if it had been made in Romanian in the first place.
